5739 Mud-Dyed Shirt - Brown

The Studio D’Artisan 5739 shirt combines exceptional fabric quality with one of Japan's most traditional dyeing techniques. Crafted from a robust 13oz cotton and linen canvas, this short-sleeved shirt offers a striking texture with pleasant breathability and a comfortable feel – ideal for the warmer months.

Before dyeing, the fabric undergoes an elaborate washing process, giving it a soft feel, a natural wrinkled texture, and the authentic character of a worn-in favorite piece.

The shirt owes its special appearance to the traditional Dorozome mud-dyeing from the Japanese island of Amami Oshima. For this centuries-old process, the fabric is first dyed multiple times with the natural tannins of the Techi tree (Sharinbai) and then repeatedly dipped in iron-rich mud from over 1.5 million-year-old earth layers. The interplay of plant-based dyes and mineral-rich mud creates exceptionally deep, warm brown tones with a vibrant color structure. Since each shirt is dyed by hand, each piece has an individual color nuance and develops an even more expressive patina over time.
