Filson – Born from the Wilderness of the American Northwest
The story of FILSON begins in 1897 – in the midst of the Klondike Gold Rush. The company was founded by Clinton C. Filson in Seattle with a clear mission: to create clothing and gear that could be relied upon in the most extreme conditions. Not for fashion, but for survival.
Filson supplied prospectors, loggers, hunters, and adventurers with rugged garments made from heavy wool and waxed canvas. Products like the legendary Mackinaw Cruiser and Tin Cloth jackets quickly became synonymous with uncompromising durability. Filson listened to its customers – people who worked outdoors and whose lives depended on their gear. Every detail had a purpose, every seam a function.
Throughout the 20th century, Filson remained true to its philosophy: Unfailing Goods. While trends came and went, the brand continued to rely on timeless designs, durable materials, and traditional manufacturing methods. Many products were – and some still are – made in the USA, with the aim of lasting a lifetime.
Today, Filson stands worldwide for authentic American outdoor and workwear. The brand combines its deep-rooted heritage with modern functionality without losing its identity. Filson is not a nostalgia project – it is a living history of craftsmanship, honesty, and gear made for real work.
Filson doesn't build clothes for the moment. Filson builds gear for generations.
